BEHIND THE BRAND

Hello 👋🏽

I'm Laura-Jane ~ Nail Tech, Educator, Mentor, Content Creator, Salon Owner (once upon a time), Administrator ... the one woman show, behind the brand! I'm grateful to have found my passion so early on in life. I started in the nail industry when I was 19 years old, with nothing but a DREAM.

I enrolled at Perth College of Beauty Therapy in early 2014 to learn everything beauty related! But I fell in love and decided to cancel the other courses to focus on NAILS. That was the best decision I've ever made!

It all started with a tiny desk, regular nail polish and a room at my parents where I would do 1 or 2 clients a week and force my sister to let me do her nails every other day! With practice, I taught myself how to sculpt acrylics, I started posting on Facebook that I specialised in sculptured acrylics (hence the business name) and it all grew from there.

My nail biz grew quickly when I started using Instagram in early 2017. Before I knew it, my followers were reaching out to me, wanting to learn my ways of doing nails and so, I took that opportunity and created my own nail courses! I was adamant in creating courses based around my unique methods and techniques that couldn't be taught elsewhere.

I've completed many online collaborations with international, high-end nail brands such as Valentino Beauty Pure, ran online training courses that sold out in less than 8 hours and have reached an international audience! That lead me to an incredible opportunity to work in a busy celebrity nail salon in Beverly Hills, LOS ANGELES! Little old me, just 6 years into my career... but then COVID-19 happened so I never got to experience that but I'm grateful to have been offered it to begin with!

I've jumped many hurdles in my career and I've loved having many job roles within the nail industry. In 2022, I expanded my business and opened my very own nail salon! This was the most exciting time of my career so far and was always something I wanted to do but never thought I could. Sadly, less than a year after opening, my nail salon was involved in an arson attack. The community I had built over the years and so many others gathered around me with lots of love and support, my blessings were endless. This made it so much easier to slowly get back on my feet and I will always be so grateful for that.

So many people told me I couldn't build a career out of being "just a nail tech" and that I wouldn't be able to "earn a living". But that drove me to prove them wrong and now, I have the most rewarding job of them all... being an Educator! Teaching courses I've created, with my very own techniques and methods. I don't operate under another brand/company... every word in my course manuals are my own and that's something I am so SO proud of.

With everything that I've been through in my personal life and my career, it's only driven me more to want to help those looking for a new start, a career or a creative outlet. Anyone can do it! Never doubt yourself, you're made for more and deserve the life that you want to live 💗

So, why did I become an educator?

After spending many years perfecting my craft, becoming an educator was naturally the next step for me. Those already in the industry or wanting to start out were reaching out to me to learn my skills, techniques and methods because they couldn't find that anywhere else. Why keep my knowledge and experience to myself when I can help someone else either in the industry or someone new entering the industry? I wish I had someone to help me when I was a beginner.

Over the years, I've seen excited newbies enter the industry with very little knowledge in their craft after being taught less than the basics and unfortunately, lacking the skills needed to thrive or move forward in their career.

Education is more important now than ever as our industry drastically changes with DIY'er's purchasing cheap products online to do their nails at home themselves, unaware of the major health risks this can cause without proper training.

In Australia, you can operate as a nail technician and purchase reputable products from nail supply stores with a "certificate of completion".
Unfortunately, a piece of paper giving the formal title of "qualified", doesn't count for much if new nail technicians are using unsafe products and outdated techniques.

Being an educator isn't a job that should be taken lightly. When I took the leap to becoming an educator, one of the many promises I made to myself was "I will always be there to guide and mentor my students". This is a responsibility that means a lot to me.

There's so much more to nails than people realise and that's why I became an educator and that's why I LOVE MY JOB so much.

If you've come this far, thanks a million for reading!

Much love, Laura-Jane xx
